We would like to take this time to wish all of you Happy Holidays.  We hope that you are all able to find joy, peace and comfort with your families, your friends and yourself this season and always.

As we celebrate this season we are reminded of others who are much less fortunate.  Instead of highlighting one charitable organization this month, we chose to mention may groups who offer help, food, warmth and assistance to others in our community who are unable to provide these basic necessities for themselves and their families.

If you are able to help another in our community, please take a moment to do so.  If you are in need of assistance, please take a moment to ask for support.  Here are just a few of the organizations working to provide a bit of cheer and support to our area.

  • The City of Clearlake has a wish-tree located in the lobby of Clearlake City Hall, 14050 Olympic Drive
  • Umpqua Bank has wish-trees located in their lobbies at 4280 main St., Kelseyville and at 805 11th St., Lakeport
  • Westamerica Bank has a wish-tree at their branch in Upper Lake
  • Donations for Food and Funds are being accepted in Nice.  Contact Pet Acres 707/ 275-2729 or Clarke’s Collectibles 707/ 274-9175
  • The Upper Lake Fire Auxiliary Christmas Cheer Program is raising funds and collecting goods to distribute in holiday baskets.
  • The Christmas Basket Fund – a collaborative effort between Lake County Publishing, Lakeport Rotary Club, Bruno’s Shop Smart, Umpqua Banks, Westamerica Banks, Lake Family Resource Center and Lake County Community Action Agency – provides Christmas baskets to those in need during the holiday season.  This is the program’s 25th year.  They will distribute 1,200 baskets, 600 to the North shore and 600 to the South shore.
  • You will find food donation bins at all of your major grocery stores.
  • Coat & Blanket Drive in conjunction with Lake County Community Resources is looking to help our Lake County homeless this season – coats, jackets, sweaters, sweatshirts, blankets, quilts, hats, gloves, and shoes are needed. The goal is collect 100 blankets and 100 coats before Dec 15th. You can bring your donation to the Middletown Middle School office or contact Sandi Watson @ 928-0430 or 529-8111

There are so many in our community who can use help, understanding and support this winter.  Please consider (if you are able) to take a moment to share some of your abundance with others; whether you have food that you are able to donate or a warm thought you are able to share, every bit makes a difference.
